scottish highlands

this has to be one of the most photographed areas on the planet, if not certainly one of the most iconic for landscape photographers.

is it the stunning scenery, the ever changing light and clean air, the dramatic weather perhaps, or maybe its the emotion it invokes that makes folk reach for their camera to capture personal memories or to share the experience.

i am fortunate to be able to call the highlands my home and these are a few personal images of my back garden. growing up in the south of england, in its own way a beautiful area, i was blown away seeing the highlands for the first time, an experience that i am reminded of whenever we venture out.

the ever changing conditions always create a unique view. folk mock the weather but without it the highlands would not be what it is, lush vegetation, stunning lochs and falls, moody skies with threatening clouds and air quality that can be free from haze a pollution.

the scots have a saying, "if you cannot see the mountains that is because its raining, if you can see them then it is going to rain later"

i have my own saying, "when the weather turns for the worse, its time to get the camera out" - so it happens quite a lot.
